Mono Fish by Joan Charnley (original 1946 charcoal pencil on paper design from Joan Charnley's sketchbooks)
On the rare occasions that Joan didn't carry watercolour paints with her, she would draw imaginary fish with thin sticks of charcoal. Examples of these 'Mono Fish' designs would pop up in some of her later marine-themed textiles.
