The Eternaut by Héctor German Oesterheld and Francisco Solano Lopez (Fantagraphics / First edition third printing, Jan 2019)

This is a seminal Argentinian graphic novel whose main character is still viewed as a symbol of resistance in Latin America. It is now considered nothing less than a seminal work of Latin American literature, and was originally published as a weekly serial in the Buenos Aires newspaper, Hora Cero, from 1957 to 1959. In it, Juan Salvo, the inimitable protagonist, along with his friend Professor Favalli and the tenacious metal-worker Franco, face what appears to be a nuclear accident, but quickly turns out to be something much bigger than they had imagined.
