No Directions by James Hanley (Nicholson & Watson / 1946)

Liverpool-born James Hanley has long been heralded as a lost genius of the English novel. A working class ordinary seaman turned novelist, his work was championed by Henry Miller and is latterly acknowledged as being an early exponent of modernism in fiction. This edition comes with a short introduction by the aforementioned Henry Miller.

'Uniform Edition' of work first published in 1943. Hardcover. Some wear to dustjacket commensurate with age, including large open tear to top of spine and more minor tearing at bottom. Dustjacket has been protected from further deterioration via the application of plastic cover. Otherwise, it remains unclipped and in fair-to-good condition. Book itself remains in very good condition with clean, unmarked, lightly-tanned pages which are free from notes and no marking to clothbound boards and spine.

Format: Hardcover
