Liverpool-born James Hanley has long been heralded as a lost genius of the English novel. A working class ordinary seaman turned novelist, his work was championed by Henry Miller and is latterly acknowledged as being an early exponent of modernism in fiction.
First edition hardcover printed on 'war economy standard' paper. Some wear to dustjacket commensurate with age, chiefly in the form of rubbing and minor tearing which has bee repaired with the application of binding tape on the inside. Otherwise, it remains unclipped and in good condition. Book itself remains in very good condition with clean, unmarked, lightly-tanned pages which are free from notes and no marking to clothbound boards and spine.
