Scarce first UK, first printing hardback edition of the classic and, once banned, novel. Edition comes with Errata slip, pasted in below publishing information, pointing out that pages 259 and 288 have been transposed in error by printers and are subsequently not where they should be. Book is in very good condition with clean, unmarked pages which are free of notes and inscriptions. Small bookseller sticker to bottom, inside edge of front cover board. No marking to grey clothbound boards or gilt-embossed spine. Dust jacket is not price-clipped but is in fair condition only with rubbing along top and bottom edges and some tearing to top of spine section. Also, twin 2 cm tears to back cover section, from top edge into author photograph (additional photographs available upon request). (Pages: 320)
