Pearl Ed. by E. V. Gordon (Oxford / Clarendon Press – 1970)

‘Pearl’ is a fourteenth century alliterative poem which, though generally regarded as one of the greatest medieval poems has, in recent years suffered neglect. The introduction to this edition includes an analysis of the form and purpose of the poem, a discussion of the doctrinal theme and the symbolism, and a survey of the dialect.

1970 reprint of title originally published in 1953. Hardback in good-to-very-good condition with clean, unmarked pages which are free from notes and underlining. No rips or tears to card dustcover but some sunning to spine and around top and outside edges of back cover section as well as evidence of two drops of liquid to lower left hand side of front cover section. Name of original owner inscribed on opening blank page. (Pages: 168)
